A Look Back At Our First Week

Dear 2nd Grade Families,

The first week of 2nd grade is over...  can you believe it?!  It went by in a flash, but here are the highlights from our curriculum.  Each week we'll bring you a post about what we did in our classrooms as well as some suggestions for you to extend your child's learning at home.

Reading- We learned that there is more than one way to read a book!  You can read the words, read the pictures, reread or retell the story.

Writing- Writing workshop was introduced!

Math- This week it was all about introducing our math routines and reviewing some concepts from 1st grade like sequencing numbers, coin identification, and the calendar.

Social Studies- We began developing a positive classroom community through team building activities and discussions about classroom rules.

Extensions for Learning:
  • Tell stories!  There is a direct correlation between the ability to tell stories orally and the ability to write them.  Model for your child by telling them a story about when you were their age.
  • Play I Spy with your child and be on the lookout for math all around.  For example, advertisements with quantities and prices, schedules that list times, pictures of designs and structures, etc.
  • Read our class blog and post a comment together!

Till next week...
The 2nd Grade Team
