Dear 2nd grade families,
The second grade team is really looking forward to meeting and working with you this year! Please make sure to mark your calendars for the Lower School Open House which is taking place August 27th. For now, we would like to give you some information regarding your child's daily activities and what they will need during these first few weeks of school.
When they are not in our classroom students will be attending a variety of specials. They will have Portuguese everyday and PE twice a week. Please make sure your child wears proper clothing on PE days (tennis shoes, comfortable clothes - no jeans). The girls are required to wear their hair tied back. They will also attend library, music, and art once a week. During Library, students will choose books to take home and we encourage them to read the books as part of their 20 minutes of daily reading. Please, make sure your child brings the books back on library days so that they can renew and/or check out new books each time. In addition, please note that they can bring their books back before their assigned library day and check new books out at that time.

We won’t have homework this week; however your child needs to read for 20 minutes every night. We are sending the Reading Log so that they can keep track of their reading.
We also ask that you help your child have a successful start to their school day by making sure they arrive to school on time. Classes begin at 8:05am, children should have their things put away and be ready to start at this time. However, please be made aware that we will not open our classroom doors prior to 7:50am and your child should be supervised prior to that time.

Finally, we'd like to ask you to please send in a cup or mug that your child can keep at school. This will eliminate trips to the water fountain since we are fortunate enough to have water available in the classroom. We will make sure that their cups or mugs get washed on a daily basis.
