Grade 4 GIVES!

Inspire. Challenge. Succeed.

Every Student... Every Heart... Every Mind... Parabéns Grade 4! We are inspired by your actions to empower others to learn! Grade 4 will donate all profits from the marketplace activity to the Graded Scholar Program. Giving back to our Graded community is an inspiration to us all! Grade 4 is Maracujá!

Curriculum Corner

Literacy. Students are using the note-taking text structures boxes and bullets, compare and contrast, problem and solution, sequence and cause and effect to plan for their information writing piece. Students are learning to be efficient note-takers when gathering information from their text. Also, students should be reading at least 30 minutes a day. You can support your child by asking him/her questions about the reading, and/or reading aloud with them.

Practice these tips and tricks at home with your child!

Math. Students continue to practice their long division skills! It is important that students regularly apply the strategies and steps used to solve division problems. Please review the Unit 6: Family Letter that provides important background information, vocabulary, do-anytime activities and homework support. Additional resources, including information about all Grade 4 math units, can be found under "Math Links" on the blog.

Students, watch the videos to help strengthen your understanding of both new and old mathematical concepts. It is important that you continue to practice your multiplication facts at home on a regular basis.

Parents, encourage a growth mindset in your child for Math!

Units of Study. We have introduced our next topic in Social Studies, Global Trade. Through class discussions, simulations and readings, students will explore how global trade affects our community. In connection to our field trip to Santos, take the time to discuss with your child the following:

I wonder, in what ways could you connect your learning about Santos to global trade?

Review the learning targets to help guide your conversations

Grade 4 explores Santos!

Students, remember to make connections to our Trade and Economy expert vocabulary throughout our unit!

Homework Expectations

Exploring our passions will teach us to be lifelong learners. With this in mind, we feel that time outside of the classroom is important in order to pursue our interests.

The following are our homework expectations for Grade 4:
  • Read 30 minutes
  • Complete one Math worksheet every 2 days
  • Complete unfinished class work
  • Review our Grade 4 blog for additional curricular information and/or to extend the learning at home

Grade 4, practice and develop a growth mindset!

Parents, make your thinking visible at home! Learning to be flexible in our thinking allows us to reflect and make meaningful connections to the world around us; therefore, a culture of thinking for active, healthy and mindful living is created!

Provide Time to Pursue Passions... We will kick-off our Maracujá (passion learning) journey next week! Help your child prepare for this meaningful learning experience by providing your child with the space he/she needs to pursue passions and interests. As we approach our Maracujá, letting your child explore different areas of interest will foster a love for lifelong learning. Pay attention to your child's learning outside of school and purposely provide the time for him/her to fully engage in it. Pursuing our passions allows us to be inspired, to face challenges and to succeed (Ron Ritchhart10 Parent ApplicationsProject Zero at Harvard Graduate School of Education).

Students will be introduced to their Maracujá Digital Notebook in the coming week!

One School. One Community. One Graded.

Building Grade 4 Community... Please review our blog post about The Eagle Way and ask your child in what ways has he/she been demonstrating The Eagle Way, both in and out of the classroom. Let's encourage our children to strengthen our Grade 4 community and to practice actions that promote safety, respect, responsibility and kindness.

News from the Library... As Women's History Month continues until the end of March, consider the books you read aloud with your child at home. Are you reading fiction with a strong female protagonist? Or perhaps nonfiction about amazing women from the past and today? Our library has lots of great suggestions on display...ask your child to bring a few home, or better yet, come see for yourself!

Your child can use Destiny Discover to access the online library resources at home! Students can open them directly on their devices once they've logged into Destiny Discover. Please ask Dr. Purcell if you have any questions about accessing the eBooks. Enjoy!

O Sítio do Carroção... Our Grade 4 field trip to o Sítio do Carroção April 23, 24, 25 is soon approaching! We hope that you and your child have been preparing for this meaningful learning opportunity in your child's personal and social growth! Together we will be inspired, challenged and feel successful! Since the yellow fever vaccination has been recommended for travel in areas of São Paulo state, we hope that you have had your child vaccinated prior to our trip.
