News March 22nd-24th

Dear Parents,

Please read the highlights of the week!

Language Arts:

In Reader's Workshop, children will be begin a new unit: Book Clubs! Students will have opportunities to read book series for a character study! 
In Writer's Workshop, we will be finishing up our Information books about every day activities that involve balance and motion, like riding a bike, swimming, gymnastics, etc. We will be applying scientific terms that we have learned in our Science unit and non-fiction features like Table of Contents, glossary, heading, labels and diagrams!

Science : We will begin our Rube Goldberg Machine Project and this week, Ms. Natalia's class will be building theirs. Please read the Rube Goldberg letter to see how you can help!

Math: This week, we will be wrapping up our Fractions Unit and begin Unit 9, Measurement. The main areas of focus: review measuring with yards and meters, measure longer distances, develop the concepts of perimeters and area and know the units of weight.

Extensions:

We’ve kicked off our Economics Unit in social studies.  This video on Goods and Services is a great introduction to many of the concepts and vocabulary we will cover in the next few weeks.
