Dear 2nd Grade Families,
Please remember to wear BLUE on Monday to show support for Bullying Prevention Day.
Language Arts: In Language Arts we have been working on reading fluency - we don't want to sound like robots when we read! In writing we have been learning to use writing moves from our favorite authors. We are learning to find things we like in the books that we are reading and use them in our writing. A few things we have discovered that make our writing more powerful are: bold print, character dialogue, feelings, and setting.
Math: We have finished our 2nd unit in math and now working on our 3rd unit in math which involves a review of time, money, and graphs. Please work with your children on paying for things using coins, especially making change when we pay too much!
Science: In Science we are in our 2nd investigation of Pebbles, Sand, and Silt. We have used screens to sort river rocks into pebbles, gravel, and sand. We have read about how rocks weather and break into sand - starting with a mountain!
Extensions for Learning:
This week in Math, we’ve been working with Graphing and Data Analysis. These are tough concepts for young children to grasp and there is a lot of new vocabulary they need to learn. Here are a few videos to watch together that walk them through the process of graphing data. Picture Graphs Bar Graphs
