4th Grade Music

The fourth-grade music program focuses on applying all musico-theoretical aspects learned in previous years (especially rhythm and melody) to recorder performance. While the early parts of the course are primarily dedicated to 1) learning proper position, posture, and breathing for playing the recorder and 2) engaging in a thorough review of crucial musical elements – names of notes, clefs, double bars, repetition signs – as preparation for direct engagement with sheet music, the latter sequences focus squarely on recorder technique through the application of the Karate Recorder method. This is an approach in which students progress through a series of colored belts as they demonstrate their ability to perform pieces of increasing difficulty.
