Vacation Reading & Linda Sue Park
Time away from school can be spent enjoying great books as a family. (Here are some recommendations.) With vacation time fast approaching, we are working hard to get all of the books back to the library. Families who have all of their books in can check 10 books out for the break. Tomorrow (12/5) will begin the last cycle of library lessons, so we ask parents and students to send all previous checkouts back to the library. The Graded Libraries will be open for families to come in together (students must be with an adult) December 18-22 from 9:00-11:00 and 1:00-4:00. The libraries will close for the holidays from December 25-January 21.
If you plan to travel light, remember that we have access to a wide range of online books through Tumblebooks and Bookflix. For nonfiction information, you might enjoy exploring BrainPop, World Book, or Britannica Escola (Portuguese) You can access all through our library homepage. Scroll to the Links bar, click "see all" to see the usernames and passwords.
We had such a wonderful week with Linda Sue Park! If you did not get a chance to buy a book before the store sold out, she left a number of signed bookplates that we can add to books that are brought in later. Drop them by either library, labeled with a student’s name and homeroom.
The Eagle Way
We are sharing an article with our teachers this week about Classroom Management during the holidays. Though the intended audience is teachers, the tips in the article ring true for parents and families during this busy time of year. The holiday season is a time of fun and celebration. It is also a time of changed routines, full schedules, and increased activity which can contribute to stress for you and for your child(ren). Here are 7 tips from The Positive Classroom that we think can be equally useful for managing your family relationships this time of year:
- Slow down
- Have group relaxation moments
- Observe your children for signs of agitation
- Keep the daily schedule consistent
- Monitor your own tone of voice
- Take the children outside
- Have some fun with your class

If you plan to purchase photos, but still have not paid, please do so on the company’s website (http://loja.lescriacoes.com.br). The deadline for returning the package is Friday, December 8, 2017. If you have any questions, please call LES Fotografias at (11) 3862-1763 or email them at atendimento@lescriacoes.com.br.
