A Great Start to the School Year
Thank you families for such a supportive start to the school year! We have enjoyed seeing the students settle into new grade levels and routines. Students are making new connections in their classes and strengthening existing friendships. Feel free to contact your child’s teacher if there is any important information to share about your child that they might not already know.
8 Day Schedule
This school year we have transitioned to an 8 day schedule (days A to H). We have done so to align schedules with our Middle School and High School. One added benefit for the change in schedule is being able to add more music and art time for our 1st to 5th grade students. We are also introducing Brazilian Social Studies classes for our students. The Veracross calendar lists each day of the 8 day schedule for students and parents. We will share more information about the new schedule during our open house.
The Eagle Way
You may have heard your child mention The Eagle Way. The Eagle Way is one strategy that we are using across the entire Lower School this year to build a strong community and to practice skills that help each child develop Graded’s core values. We will continue to use this space in the coming weeks to share small bits of information with you about The Eagle Way. For this week, we would like to showcase The Eagle Way mantra:

Technology Use
Just a reminder as we start the school year that it is important to monitor your child’s use of technology. While it is exciting to see how quickly children can find information online, they also need support with what is developmentally appropriate for them to view. We recommend having limited technology time in a supervised area, and have children shut off their devices before going to bed. We have already had some students report they have tried the Bloody Mary challenge, which one of the suggestions is to look at a scary image at 3:00am. As you can imagine, this makes being prepared for learning the following day a challenge. For more tips about media use and children, click here.
The LS Library
Please stop by to set up your own library account, to be able to access online resources (including databases for your children, and magazines for you) and check out books. Your child will have a specific day of the 8-day cycle that is a set library check-out time, but they are able to come check out new books any day, with permission from their teachers. We are also open before and after school (from 7:30-4) daily. We look forward to seeing you soon!
