Math – Decimals and Place Value
On Friday students took their
Unit 4 math test. This has now been scored and will be in their backpack Monday
afternoon.
Our new math unit of study is
based on decimals and place value. Over the following weeks, students will be
answering the following essential questions:
How small and large can numbers be?
How do place values compare?

Hour of Code
The Technology department will be teaching the coding
process to students across Graded. The “Hour of Code 2016” activities will
happen from Dec. 5 to Dec. 8.
What is Hour of Code?
It is a Global movement to teach students the first steps on CODING.
To learn the basics in the field of Computer Science. It helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and
creativity. By starting early, students will have a foundation for success in
any 21st-century career path.
What is CODING?
“Coding
or programming” is telling a computer what you want it to do, which involves
typing in step-by-step commands for the computer to follow, (programming).

Field Trip, November 18th
Please make sure students
arrive on time at school for our field trip this Tuesday to the aquarium. Student do not need to bring anything to
school this day, all will be provided for them.
Thanksgiving
Thank you to all the parents
who are helping make the Thanksgiving celebration a success.
Thursday, November 24th is a minimum day
Students will be given a
sandwich that we will toast with Mr. Ro’s class before being dismissed at noon.

This coming Thursday 8
students will be performing a short play, Rocks and Minerals. If you are unable
to attend we will be turning this into a short video in the upcoming weeks. If
your child was not chosen for this play there are 2 more opportunities for them
to perform in later assemblies. The participants in this play includes:

I’ve attached a copy of the
play for any student that has lost their script. Please make sure students have
their parts memorized before November 24th.
No school on Friday, November 25th
In observance of the
Thanksgiving holiday there will be no school in November 25th.
Science – Animals
Our next science unit is
based on animals. Students will be creating Non Fiction books from their
research that will be submitted to the school library for checkout throughout
the year. Students will be entering this book into the library on December 9th.

Factory – November 21st, read up to chapter 8.
Red Pyramid – December 2nd,
read up to chapter 29.
Witches – December 1st,
finish the book.
Spelling Words – Attached in the email is a copy of the spelling words. Our final
spelling test for this calendar year will be on December 9th.
Author Visit – Monday,
November 19th we will have an author, Andy Wright, visit to discuss the writing

Egg Drop Challenge- December 15th
The last day of school
students are welcome to compete in an egg drop challenge with their learning
community. Students can work independently or in small groups. The class will
submit 4 designs for entry into the competition. Students may use up to 4
materials for their design NOT including glue, tape or string. Students are
welcome to bring in materials and work on their design during recess in class
on the remaining Mondays: November 28th, December 5th and
12th. Participation is completely voluntary. Please follow the link
