Class Update - October 30th

Halloween - Thank you to all the parents that helped decorate the classroom, provided snacks and came to support the students. Please follow the link below to see photos.

Science - Metamorphic rocks, igneous and sedimentary
Students are continuing to learn about the differences and similarities between the types of rocks. Please encourage your child to start their own rock collection and bring them into the classroom. Follow the link below to better understand the rock cycle.

Author’s visit - This Thursday, November 3rd at 8:15, Graded will have 2 authors (Sara Holbrook and Michael Sallinger) present their poetry and answer questions about the writing process. One of my favorite poems is “The Men Who Don't Fit In” by Robert W. Service. If you have a favorite poem please share it with your child.

Math - Multiplication and Division
Please continue practicing multiplying at home. This week students will practice multiplying using 7, 8, 9 and 10’s.
For some students this was their first time dividing using long division. Please assist them with any questions they may have.

The Red Pyramid: Jiho, Gabi C., Luna (meeting every Friday)
There is still the opportunity to have one more book club. If your child has not already joined a book club and is interested, please let me know.

Kindness week-
This week, students took part in kindness week. Please follow the link below to see photos of their acts of kindness.

Little 8 - Sunday through Wednesday I’ll be coaching the Junior Varsity Girls Basketball team at Little 8. A team sport encourages students to succeed academically and understand the importance of success being achieved when everyone works together. I am a huge proponent of sports, physical education and adding movement to lessons. I highly recommend parents providing opportunities for their children to take part with group or individual sports.

Wednesday holiday - In observance of All Souls Day there will be no school on November 2nd.

Reading Fluency - This Thursday afternoon students will have their reading fluency tested.

Movember - To raise awareness for men’s health I’ll be taking part in Movember. Beginning November 1st, I’ll encourage and challenge students to be physically active for the 30 days of November and raise awareness regarding issues concerning men’s health. Please follow the link below to see a short video on Movember.
