Class News
It's hard to believe that we are heading into the month of October already. I must say, it feels very good to have settled into our routines and are moving through the curriculum at a much more steady rate.
There are several items of importance listed below. If you have questions or concerns regarding these or any other class related issues, please feel free to email me.
Wear Blue on Monday
The student council has asked students to wear blue on Monday to help with their anti-bullying campaign.
This Tuesday, October 4th, is our 3rd grade field trip to the Immigration Museum. Please make sure your child arrives at school on time or even earlier to guarantee an easy departure from school. Students do NOT need electronics, snacks, water bottles or backpacks.
Writing test on Friday
Writing test on Friday
As our first writing unit comes to a close, students will be taking a Narrative writing test on Friday, October 7th. They will have 45 minutes to write a personal narrative using the writing process. They have had several guided practice experiences and are now working at an independent level. This assessment will allow me to identify and address individual strengths and weaknesses.
Migration Projects
As many of you have noticed, the students are quickly gaining proficiency in use of the computers. Each student has created a slideshow using Google Slides to tell a story of migration. Students will be presenting their slideshows to their classmates within the next week or so. Parents will have the opportunity to view their child's creation at our student-led conferences. For those who would like to see their child's work beforehand, may view the slideshow from the student's Google account.
Spelling City
The third graders have enjoyed using the Chromebooks across the curriculum. For word study, students may access their list word, take a practice test and play games on spellingcity.com. The direct link to your child's list will be emailed to him/her each week.
Reading Non-Fiction
Looking ahead in our reading units, students will soon be taking a closer look at non-fiction writing. I would encourage students to read non-fiction books at home to broaden their base of understanding text features and organization.
Math Groupings
In our attempt to best meet the needs of our students, Mrs. Kulikowsky and I will be grouping students according to specific needs. Please check with your child to see if there has been a change in his assigned math class. We are excited for the opportunity to target our instruction to the varying needs of students.
Brag Tags
As you may have heard, Brag Tags are not being used to reinforce positive behaviors in the classroom. The tags are displayed in the classroom and serve as a terrific motivator for students. If you hear news of a Brag Tag being given, please use this opportunity to praise your child.
Lastly, I'd like to apologize for the lapse between blog post. We had some technical difficulties and several of the post were deleted.
As always, please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns.
