Hello Families!

It feels wonderful to have gotten to know the students and to have established all of our routines. I feel very blessed to have such a wonderful group of students to work with this year.  It's an honor to stand before them each day and take part in both their academic and social growth. They have already become very dear to me.

I wanted to review a few points that were touched upon at Open House so that everyone is clear about them. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns and I will do my best to address them.

Homework-  The students will have approximately thirty minutes of homework, Monday thru Thursday. This will include twenty minutes of reading and ten minutes of math or spelling. For reading, your child may read anything they would like to read. However, we encourage each child to select "good-fit" books. In addition, they are asked to complete a reading log to track their personal reading volume. Most nights, your child will have math homework. This is intended to be a quick review and practice of previously taught skills. Now and then, math homework will be substituted with spelling work. If your child is having trouble completing assignments within thirty minutes or is not making progress in his reading volume, please contact me so that we can make arrangements that will assure his/her success. Please help your child to remember to put his or her name on their papers.

Agenda- As third graders, students are expected to complete record daily assignments in their agenda. This is intended to provide a means of communication between home and school and for students to begin forming strong study habits. Please assist your child in using the agenda for it's intended purpose.

Blog- Please check this Blog on a regular basis. It will be the primary means of communication for general classroom news.  An email will be sent to parents when an important update to the Blog has been made, however, check often to see photographs and your own child's post.

Needed for Classroom-  Although our classroom is very well supplied with all sorts of instructional items, there are a few things I would like to have in order to make the room a bit more cozy. Listed below are a few items that I would love to have in the classroom. If you are able to contribute you can send the items to school with your child, or drop them off at any time.

  • gently used stuffed animals
  • gently used pillows
  • floor lamp
  • legos
  • small toys to used for "treasure box"
Thank you all for helping us to get off to a terrific start. I enjoyed meeting each of you and look forward to a terrific school year. Please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns you may have.
