Our News

Weekly Update for the Week of November 16-19

Dear Second Grade Families,
Language Arts:
We’ve begun stating relevant opinions about a book we are reading in class by using a graphic organizer. Students are learning how to supply reasons in order to support their opinions on a book they’ve read.

Providing a concluding statement has been a challenge!

Math:
GEOMETRY! We’ve explored polygons, quadrangles, and 3-dimensional shapes. Identifying cones, pyramids, prisms, cubes, and cylinders has been fun!

Social Studies:

In Social Studies we learned how to:
• Locate places on a map.
• Use a map grid, map key, and compass rose.
• Follow cardinal directions.
• Trace a route on a map.
• Create maps.
Social Studies Vocabulary:
map key, symbol, map grid, compass, compass rose, map scale.
Programming! All 2nd graders became tech experts this week! We learned how to program by using the “Scratch Jr. app”at the studio. Children answered these questions: “Where do people play, live, and work in your community and why”?

Extensions for Learning:

Here’s a great video made by another international school that introduces us to parallel lines.  It’s a very catchy song...enjoy it!

Have a nice and relaxing long weekend!
The 2nd grade team
