Setting SMART Reading Goals
Grade 5's are involved in writing reading goals and are thinking SMART.
Is it specific?
How is it measurable?
Is it achievable?
Is it relevant and realistic?
What is the timeline?
Students will set up a reading goal and conference with their homeroom teacher. They will be set up on Biblionasium so students can keep an ongoing log.
Division Homework Help
We are practicing division with decimals this week. Here is a video that shows you how we are doing it in class. (Spoiler alert, much different than how we would have learned in school.)

Book Discussions: Writing About Reading
Students home-reading has changed significantly now that they are in book discussion groups (BDG). They should be reading and writing about their reading every night. Their journals are used to find evidence and organize their thinking. Then, students need to publish their writing using the sentence stems and examples modelled in class with our read aloud, Refugee.
Need some at-home help to remember what each strategy looks like? Here are strategies students have learned in class which are due with their book club books.
